If you are experiencing very slow net connection speed and may be cursing and abusing your ISP like Harbhajan Singh, then let me tell you that you are not alone with this unwanted experience! There are millions of internet users across India as well as West Asia who are suffering with the same fate!
The Incident:
The undersea or submarine cables, which carry our net data to and fro between India and parts of the world have been accidentally hit by a ship off the port of Egypt in the Mediterranean sea.
The reason was that the ship was not allowed to dock in the coast due to storm in the sea.
Affected Entities:The BPOs, KPOs, banks and other companies which relies heavily on internet have been hit the hardest. Even young indians who cant imagine life beyond internet are suffering. Few even have stopped working who depended heavily on internet for their work.
Solutions Expected:
Bandwidth have been severely hit across India, which is expected to be back in the peak of performance only after 10-15 days!
The Reality:
Its really sad that how a disruption in other country can affect another country or in that case many countries economically! In todays connected world this has been an eye opener for all concerned.
Yet things continue to be the same…those (un)reliable fibre optics cable being laid for thousand miles across different seas and oceans, etc.
Why cant satellites be used for data transmission across such long distances?
Expensive proposition? But atleast those will be reliable, isnt?
