Since the time Ratan Tata have announced that one his companies, namely Tata Motors is going to manufacture a car with the price tag of Rs.1Lakh to the world, many controversies have been created around the world.

Top honchos of automobile manufacturing companies around the world have expressed their doubt about the viability of the car. Companies in the form of Maruti-Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra have all expressed their deep concerns about safety issue and the price issue.

The funny part is, they are all preparing themselves to try-n-rollout a car in the same segment.

The details which we know about the car till now is that -

1 Its going to be a four door car.

2 Going to be a small car.

3 Engine will be placed at the rear.

4 Going to sport a 600cc engine.

5 To be showcased on 10 Jan`08 at the Auto Expo in Delhi

6 Selling will start around mid 08.

I wrote these things just to let you all know what had happened till know relating this car.

Now why its a curse?

1. The land issue…

To manufacture this car, the company have started constructing two factories. Out of that one is present in Singur, around 50kms far from Kolkata. The government had acquired fertile farmland to the tune of 997 acres. The land used to produce crops 3 times in a year. the farmers there were bullied and forced to give away their land. Now where are they supposed to go? What are they supposed to earn, when they dont even know how to write their names? There were lot of infertile land present around or beside the fertile patch of land. there ware huge protests in the state and many strikes were called.

2. The road issue…

Huge number of people will buy the car, if it succeds in all the parametres. thus the roads wil be congested. Vehicles will move a lot slower. there will be a lot more accidents.

3. The environment issue…

Since the average speed of the automibiles will be slower, more fuel will be burnt. Thus the more CO2 will be produced. More trees will be chopped to widen roads.

4. The employment issue…

Now mostly the middle-class to lower middle-class people take a taxi when they are out with their families. Once the price barrier vanishes, they surely will buy the car. thus the taxi drivers will out of their jobs. Now you may tell me that many jobs are created as well. But again many farmers had to sell their land so they are entitled to get a job to sustain their family isnt?

5. The parking issue…

Where will all these cars get parked? Will the Tatas build underground parking lots for all their cars? Do we find all the resedential apartments having as many parking slots as the number of flats? Where will they park it while shopping or at public places? I am sure nobody has answer to these questions. And if they cant park it while in public place, then why will they take it there in the first place? So why will they buy it? LOL.

So what do you all say about the car- blessing or a curse?

Think! Think! Think!

And keep thinking.

Or ask the Tatas to think and then manufacture it!

Anyway… They are giving middle-class family a choice to have their own car which was not possible before…
I myself belong to a middle class family and owning a car is like a dream.. I hope that Car will come out as soon as possible… can’t wait…

Ur logic seems as if you belong to the rival companies of TATA.
only if yopu are so much concerend about it, u should criticize, some companies which enjoy the monopolies in the market, artificially inflate their product prices.
for eg the biggest bike manufacturer in the world can pay Rs. 500 crores for a world cup global sponsership, but cannot reduce the cost of vehicle by a meagre Rs. 5000/-

  4. Hello Ali, PEACE! Yes right that i dont work for any rival company of TATA. Even i am not against the rollout of the car also. It will definitely help lots of middle to lower-middle families to own a car and subsequently fulfill their dream.
But all this doesnt change the real facts which we have already faced or seen and those that are actually going to happen. One can leave all the points mentioned above, but what about the parking problem? In Kolkata if not in the whole of India there is serious parking and road congestion problem. Do you all disagree with that?
